One day, Abu Nawas was invited to a feast hosted by a wealthy and generous man. As the guests sat down to eat, they noticed that there was only one large platter of food in the center of the table, and no individual plates. They were all puzzled and wondered how they were supposed to eat.
Abu Nawas, always quick-witted, came up with a solution. He picked up a handful of food from the platter and started eating it with his fingers. The other guests were surprised but followed his lead and started eating with their hands as well.
After the meal, the host asked Abu Nawas how he had enjoyed the food. Abu Nawas replied, "It was excellent, but I have one suggestion for next time: please provide spoons!"
The host was taken aback and asked, "Why? You and the other guests seemed to enjoy eating with your fingers."
Abu Nawas grinned and replied, "Yes, we did. But if you had given us spoons, we could have taken even more food!"
